What a difference a good night of sleep makes!

Wednesday Morning

Oh, what a glorious morning it is.

When we arrived in the harbor,  the wind was blowing at 25 knots.  We picked up a mooring ball (with no small difficulty – see previous entry).  The mooring ball belongs to a local restaurant and they don’t charge to use the mooring but they ask you to eat dinner at their restaurant.  Seems reasonable – we need to eat somewhere.

This town has a jetty that runs around the harbor.  The restaurant was on the jetty right next to the water. Maybe 12 tables.  Serves drinks during the day.  Fine for us but my expectations weren’t high.

The owner was very friendly and we liked him very much.  (He is letting us use his wireless.  Pretty cool to be able to reach it from the boat). The meal may be the best meal I have ever eaten.  Certainly the best one I can think of right now.  It was a fieed menu – we had one choice: meat or fish.  Since we are in a fishing village, we choose fish, of course.

The first course was a salad with a very thin slice of smoked tuna and anchovies on the side.  The anchovies were fresh and delicious.  Who knew they could taste that good ?  The second course was octopus cakes (think crab cakes).  Also delicious.

The main course was grilled grouper with a delicious sauce, potatoes and spinach. We also had a carafe of white wine.

The sun was setting while we ate and I did take a number of pictures which I will post later.  So peaceful.

Last night the wind calmed and we had a very still night.  It’s amazing how well you sleep on a boat when you have only the gentle motion of a quiet seat.

The restaurant we ate at - Marco's

This is our boat just outside the restaurant

Sunset from the restaurant
They are predicting a Mistral wind today (from the south west).  And only 10 – 15 knots.  Which is enough to move along but not at all rough.  We will probably try to get to Mljet Island which has a large national park on it.  It is a long haul for us but we may try to stay there two nights so we have some time to explore while we are there.  There is an old monastery there that dates back to 400A.D. (I think).  (Every island seems to have its monastery, every town at least one ancient church, plus various fortifications.  Lots of old structures to enjoy!
